Random Team Generator

Split names into
Fair Random Teams

Paste a list of names, pick how many teams you need, and let the tool split them into balanced groups — instantly and entirely in your browser.

How it works

1

Paste your names

Whoever you're splitting up — a class, a five-a-side match, a trivia night — drop the list in. It stays on your device the whole time.

2

Choose team count

Pick how many teams to split into, from 2 up to 10. The tool keeps every group as balanced as possible.

3

Get fair teams

Names are shuffled with the unbiased Fisher–Yates method and dealt round-robin, so selection is fair every time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the random team generator really random?

Yes. Names are shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm, a mathematically unbiased method. Every ordering is equally likely, so no team or position is favored.

Are the teams always the same size?

Teams are kept as balanced as possible. When names can't split evenly, the extra names go one at a time — no two teams ever differ by more than one person.

Do you store the names I enter?

Never. This tool doesn't talk to a server at all — the split happens entirely on your device, so there's nothing for us to store even if we wanted to.

Can I paste names separated by commas?

Yes — one name per line or comma-separated both work. Empty lines are ignored automatically.

Do I need an account to use it?

No account, no sign-up, and no paid tier. Open the page, paste names, pick a team count, and generate instantly.
